As part of its 2019 budget, New York State has finalized new requirements designed to prevent sexual harassment in the workplace which are among the strictest in the nation. They key components of the law are as follows:
Additionally, New York State has recognized non-employees as those covered by this policy: "A non-employee is someone who is (or is employed by) a contractor, subcontractor, vendor, consultant, or anyone providing services in the workplace. Protected non-employees include persons commonly referred to as independent contractors, “gig” workers and temporary workers. Also included are persons providing equipment repair, cleaning services or any other services provided pursuant to a contract with the employer."
